How many years have you worked in podcasting or audio?
6–10 years
What is your current role, in your own words?
I help independent creators and brands create standout shows that stick with their audiences, with aligned business, creative, and marketing strategies. I co-run an end-to-end podcasting engine designed to enable our partners to focus on the creative and the conversion.
What types of projects do you typically work on?
I mainly work with small and medium businesses on podcasts in the technology, health & wellness, and business spaces.
How many years have you been a Signal Awards judge?
This is my first year!
What excited you about joining the Signal Awards Judging Academy?
The Signal Awards put forward the art of podcasting in a way that I want to continue supporting as our industry continues to change rapidly. The bar for quality, storytelling or even experimentation is raised every year, and I look forward to contributing to this exciting future.
What is one recent podcast you’ve loved and would recommend?
I keep coming back to Behind the Wall, a recent episode being with Jenna Andrews and Stephen Kirk. The BTS of music moments of historical proportions always pull me in.
What separates good audio storytelling from great audio storytelling?
To me, that’s being in tune with what each layer of audio storytelling does to heighten the emotions and immersion. A lot of purposeful work goes into this process, where the possibilities are endless.
What project are you most proud of and why?
I’m most proud of What Your Therapist Thinks, a branded podcast for a startup I got to create the branding, and lead production on. With intense dedication from the entire team, this podcast hit 500k plays in its first 12-episode season.
What podcasting trend, challenge, or opportunity has your attention these days?
The challenge AI brings to podcasting is an interesting one, as the most popular tech-bro attempt is to bypass creators altogether by drowning feeds with slop. I find there is an opportunity that gets buried here for smaller creative teams. It has become possible to overcome certain obstacles of high-quality productions, with more ambitious storytelling: a voice I hope becomes louder.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to emerging creators?
If it seems like your podcast idea has already been done, go listen to those shows! There’s a good chance that no one has done it your way, which means your audience is still waiting on you to reach them.
